Fédération Aéronautique Internationale

FAI logoThe Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world's air sports federation, was founded in 1905. It is a non-governmental and non-profit making international organisation with the basic aim of furthering aeronautical and astronautical activities worldwide and currently represents over 100 member countries.

The FAI is the governing body for World and European Championships in the various air sport disciplines and also ratifies aeronautical world records. Irish balloon pilot Pauline Baker is the holder of nine hot air ballooning world records.

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale is also the organisation responsible for the prestigious World Air Games which were held in Turin, Italy in June 2009
